So I like to keep this site up to date – but that often fails. Actually, I often fail. So instead of sharing any groundbreaking marketing tactics today (as if I knew any!), I thought I would tell you what I’m up to with my business.

This may not be new stuff to you, but maybe it is.

  • I bought 3 new domains just a couple days ago, slapped WordPress on those babies, and now I’m working up some content.
  • 2 domains are for new products. $97 for each course, probably downloadable content. But they could be physical – I’m not 100% sure about it yet. I considered adding some continuity, but I’ll keep it simple for now. I’m running them through PayDotCom for a few affiliates. And I’ll be using PPC for my main traffic source – got some good keywords that won’t cost much at all.

“PayDotCom sucks,” you say? Well, I’ve been struggling with that. A lot of affiliates avoid PDC because they get screwed by their vendors, who never pay the commissions owed. Clickbank is the obvious choice for people wanting tons of affiliates. But I also don’t agree with lots of Clickbank’s practices. For instance, my account is currently suspended. Why? The only response I’ve received is “your account is under investigation due to fraud claims.” Well that’s helpful! I make affiliate commissions off two products in the same innocuous niche. Not a lot of money – only about $400/month. Suddenly I’m investigated for fraud and my checks are being held. Nice. Thanks for nothing, I don’t believe I’ll be trusting any of MY products in your hands, Clickbank.

So how will I overcome this affiliate slump using PDC? I have some top secret plans, which I will not reveal here. Not now – but probably later. I only want a few affiliates, and I’m going to be targeting the few that I’m after. So PDC should work fine for my purposes.

  • Domain number 3 is my “brand” site. Both new products are being labeled with this brand, and I have about 15 more products in queue for this line. Nice, neat way to organize things.

What benefit do I get from branding all these loosely connected products? A single face for customers and affiliates. A single contact person, a single shelf for affiliate promotion material, and another blog to write articles to. Articles that will hopefully grab some keywords in Google, and will link back to the related products.

The other BIG reason for this is that continuity that I mentioned earlier. I’m not doing it now. But later I may organize a membership site around the general topic of my products. It might be added as forced continuity to the individual products, or it might be an upsell. But it gives me a clean way to funnel all these buyers in relatively different niches into ONE membership site. Less hassle, less content to write each month, and more happiness for me. Win, win, win.

So that’s where I’m at right now. Of course I have some other secrets up my sleeve for this project. They aren’t uncovered in this post, but they might be later on. That all depends on which tactics I use, which ones work for me, and if I want to let the cat out of the bag so soon.

In my next post, we’ll talk psychology! Little known “mind tricks” you can use in your online business to make your customers throw money at you. Well, not really. But the tricks are cool, and any business can benefit from them.

Until then,
Reuben D. Rock
